KIMSSA's Journey

Kidane Mehret Students' Self-Help Association/KIMSSA, established on March 25, 1993, by the first diaspora returnees Mr. Hailu Gebre Hiwot, his late wife Mrs. Amarech Worku, and their three sons Yitbarek(youngest), Asfaw, and Eskinder. Inspired by the urgent needs of orphans and disadvantaged students, they opened their private residential compound to provide education, life skills training and employment support for the last 31 years.

  • 1993: Founded and launched the first diaspora community outreach program.
  • 2000: Reached a milestone of supporting over 700 students.
  • 2010: Started providing light skills training such as food preparation and training in Injera metad assembling.
  • 2022:The Addis Ababa Administration granted 1000m2 of land at Aware near the present location for school building.
  • 2023:Foundation stone was placed for our 11-story academy building.
  • 2024:Started Soliciting funds for the construction of the building.

Sunday Programs

Every Sunday member students present various programs creatively. The programs are designed to help children discover their innate gifts and develop them. Other entertainment activities include :

  • Music and Singing

    Children perform songs and showcase their musical talents ranging from traditional Ethiopian music to modern songs.

  • Dance Performances

    From traditional Ethiopian dances to modern choreography, children light up the stage with energetic and vibrant performances.

  • Poetry and Storytelling

    Through poetry and storytelling, children share stories of their lives, communities, and aspirations, promoting creativity and literacy.
